Can’t Take You Home
The story begins with a wedding no less than a farce, which uncovers a series of lies long hidden in the family……
The father of the Ai family’s three sisters is having a wedding, his fourth, on Oct. 10 in the year of Taiwan’s 100th anniversary. They each have different mothers, have developed distinct emotional histories with their father, and were involved with one another in ill feelings and complicated relationships.
Before the wedding, the father asked the second sister to tell the other two that their ninety-year-old grandfather has only one year left for life, and wants them to take good care of him. The three sisters were raised by the old man and know very well that his only wish is to marry them off.
The eldest sister has been seeing someone secretively, who is a married man. She called off her engagement at 28 and has lost faith in marriage ever since, but she still believes in love.
To the second sister, love is a lie, sex is real. She has held tight this belief since her mother killed herself.
The youngest sister is a sweet girl in appearance with the most materialistic concers at heart, due to her money-minded mother.
To please the old man, the three sisters try their best to make the best out of themselves as the final countdown nears. And they try too hard. Love and hatred, lies and truth, long neglected and buries, goes off like explosives in the already fragile relationship……
